Man, Kids Robbed at Gunpoint in Schaumburg Park

Young men or teens got away with victim's car.

Schaumburg police are looking for three young men involved in the armed robbery of a man as he played with his children in a park in the northwest suburb Tuesday night.

The 36-year-old victim was with his children playing in the west end of Atcher Park near the intersection of Syracuse Lane and Slingerland Drive, Schaumburg police said. About 9:45 p.m. the man was approached by a young man, between 16 and 20 years old, who asked if he could use the victim’s cellphone.

That young man then flashed a handgun and told the victim and the children to get on the ground. He then took the victim’s car keys and fled with two other teen men in the victim’s car, which was parked nearby.

The victim and his children were not injured, police said. They ran to a nearby home to call police and a short time later the vehicle was discovered abandoned in Roselle.

The three robbers were described as black males between 16 and 20 years old. The one who had the handgun was also described as standing about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone who may have information about this crime is asked to contact the Investigations Division of the Schaumburg Police Department, at 847-882-3534.
