The possibility of scattered strong thunderstorms looms over the Chicago area as the Labor Day weekend continues Sunday.
Mostly dry conditions were seen during the morning hours, however, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop around the area after 6 p.m. Some of those storms could come with damaging winds and hail, with heavy rain, along with the possibility of lightning.
This weather pattern is expected to continue through next week, as hot and humid temperatures could help fuel storms throughout.
Temperatures are expected to climb to near 90 degrees, and thanks to high humidity, heat indices could potentially get near 100 degrees as the week wears on.
Sunday’s weather comes after heavy rains were dumped on much of the area, with record-setting rainfalls recorded in several northeastern Illinois cities.
