San Francisco Ups Ante For George Lucas Museum

Is the force with Chicago? The Windy City appears to be getting competition to house the George Lucus museum from San Francisco.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, waterfront property once set aside for the Golden State Warriors NBA team will instead be offered to George Lucas for his museum.

Lucas had originally had his sights set another San Francisco location to house a museum of movie items and modern paintings, including works by Norman Rockwell.

Earlier this month, a task force charged by Mayor Rahm Emanuel with finding a potential location for a George Lucas museum in Chicago recommended parking lots just south of Soldier Field for the museum. The Park District-owned parking lots, which sit between the stadium and McCormick Place.

The newspaper reports that San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee plans to try to woo Lucas with the waterfront parcel in a letter to be mailed Thursday.
