Sam Fuld Declines Managerial Interview With Cubs: Report

Fuld is the second person to reportedly turn down an interview with the Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are still going through the process of choosing their next manager, but another potential candidate has reportedly bowed out of consideration for the job.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, former Cubs outfielder Sam Fuld has declined interviews with at least three different teams, including the Cubs, for their vacant managerial positions. Fuld, who played for the Cubs from 2007 to 2010, also declined interviews with the Pirates and Mets, according to the website.

Fuld is currently serving as the player information coordinator for the Philadelphia Phillies, who also happen to have a managerial opening.

The former outfielder is the second person to reportedly turn down an interview with the Cubs, joining former New York Mets and Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltrán, who has said he is only interested in managing the Mets next season.

The Cubs have interviewed at least four candidates, including bench coach Mark Loretta, first base coach Will Venable, former catcher David Ross, and former Yankees manager Joe Girardi. The Cubs also reportedly interviewed Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada on Monday, and are expected to talk to former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler later this week.
