Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael on Tuesday evening lost his bid unseat the mayor of southwest suburban Romeoville.
With all precincts reporting, incumbent Mayor John Noak received nearly 61 percent of the vote and McMichael received about 39 percent of the vote.
"I am honored that the people of Romeoville have placed their trust in me and our entire Romeoville United team for another four years,” Noak said in a victory statement. "The progress we’ve made the last four years has been a true team effort, and it’s resulted in 4,000 new jobs, hundreds of new businesses and balanced budgets and property tax relief."
McMichael moved to the village last year. He says he was prompted to run by his desire to help the district where his 4-year-old daughter will attend school and conversations he's had with customers at his sports bar, Mongo McMichael's. It was his first time running for public office.
McMichael hasn't commented on the results.
Earlier in the day, as he prepared to vote at the romeoville Village Hall, McMichael said the persona as an offensive and less-than-politically-correct jerk was just a character he created for his time in the NFL.
