Charges were pending Monday afternoon against several people arrested after a five-hour standoff with police at a Rogers Park apartment building earlier in the day.
The situation started when a person barricaded himself inside a unit in an 80-unit apartment building in the 1600 block of West Sherwin Avenue about 2:40 a.m. police said.
The "initial" suspect was taken into custody about 7:50 a.m. along with "several" other people, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said. Their ages and genders weren’t immediately known.
A hostage negotiator at the scene said that eight people were led out of the building. No shots were fired and no one was hurt.
The situation started in a studio apartment on the fourth floor, according to building manager Miguel Fonseca. A SWAT team reported to the scene, police said.
The building’s fourth floor was evacuated and about 20 people waited in a warming bus outside before the situation was resolved.
Charges were pending against the intial male suspect and an unspecified number of the other people who were inside.
