Funeral Planned Saturday for Rockford Police Officer

A funeral is planned Saturday for a Rockford police officer who died in the line of duty after a traffic stop.

On Friday afternoon, a motorcade of more than 30 vehicles and a ceremonial honor guard escorted the body of 30-year-old Jaimie Cox to First Free Rockford church for his visitation.

A funeral is scheduled for the church Saturday followed by a procession. City officials have asked the public to line the procession route.

The Rockford Register Star reports Mayor Tom McNamara and Police Chief Dan O'Shea are scheduled to speak at the funeral.

Cox died of blunt force trauma early Sunday when he was found entangled in a pickup truck that crashed into a tree. The pickup truck driver, 49-year-old Eddie Patterson, died from multiple gunshot wounds.
