Rock On: Schubas Shimmies to a New Location

Schuba's owners building mid-sized concert venue

Schubas is one of those Chicago music spots where on any given night you could be watching the next big thing getting a start on their career -- think bands like Dave Matthews or My Morning Jacket.

But now the brothers who own the joint, Chris and Mike Schuba, are making a move that will enable them to still book those bands when they outgrow their small venue.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the pair will open a mid-sized two-level music venue in the fall called Lincoln Hall at 2424 N. Lincoln Ave.

Similarly-sized venues around the city include the Double Door, Martyrs and Logan Square Auditorium, but the brothers told the newspaper that their new spot will essentially be a larger version of their Southport Avenue bar, with room to hold three times as many patrons as Schubas, which has room for 167.

The owners won't settle on a specific opening date until they've completed the necessary city inspections and licensing.
