Robert Downey Jr. Promotes Surprise Common Appearance in Chicago

Rapper Common is a Chicago native, and it looks like he's making an appearance at home on Thursday afternoon.

Robert Downey, Jr. drew attention to a surprise event happening with the rapper and "XQ The Super School Project," a non-profit dedicated to "a movement to rethink America’s schools," according to the organization's website.

Common will be appearing at the organization's "Super School Bus Tour" in Grant Park, south of Buckingham Plaza at 669 S Columbus Dr at 5 p.m.

XQ The Super School Project is currently holding a contest, in which $50 million will be awarded to a high school with the most innovative ideas to “create and redesign the whole structure of high school,” a spokesperson for the organization confirmed.

The tour features a speaker and an open forum to discuss the main purpose of the organization and to give insight into the different ideas people may have about rethinking education.

More than 700 applications were submitted in September 2015, and winners will be selected in August.

It was unclear if Common will be performing Thursday, but the bus will remain in Chicago through June 11 at 2 p.m.
