The police chief of south suburban Robbins was charged with drunken driving this week in Midlothian -- his second DUI charge in three years.
Robbins police Chief Johnny Holmes was arrested Saturday in the neighboring suburb of Midlothian, according to Midlothian police Chief David Burke.
Police said they found Holmes after responding to a 911 call from a woman reporting that Holmes nearly hit her near 147th Street and Pulaski Road. The police chief was later found near Claire Boulevard and Pulaski Road but didn't immediately stop until he turned south on Maxey Court, according to the police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune.
The report states that Holmes initially denied drinking but later said he'd been at the Posen Pub.
The police chief failed field sobriety tests, the report states, and was taken into custody. The officer said he found a flask of liquor in Holmes' jacket.
Burke, who has been on vacation this week, could provide no additional details, but confirmed Holmes also was charged with driving under the influence in Midlothian in March 2010.
After that case, Holmes was suspended with pay and given a verbal warning by village trustees.
Holmes, 66, has headed up the police department in Robbins since 1991.
