Robbers Allegedly Used Craigslist to Target Victims

Undercover sting nabs suspects accused of robbing individuals looking for used iPhones

Two men suspected in a string of armed robberies were arrested Tuesday evening in a sting operation by the Schaumburg Police Department.

Detectives set up the sting following three robberies over the past few weeks that fit the same pattern.

The victims had placed ads on Craigslist looking to purchase used iPhones to resell at their businesses, and were robbed at gunpoint by a purported seller who contacted them.

An undercover agent served as a fake cell phone buyer during Tuesday's sting and was met by 26-year-old Brandon Timberlake of Arlington Heights. Timberlake was arrested and police say he had a BB gun in his possession that looked like a real handgun.

Jay Dixon Jr., 25, of Skokie was found in a nearby car and also arrested.

Police say both men were later identified by the victims in a lineup at the police station.

Each men was charged with one count of felony aggravated robbery and were scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday morning.
