CTA Erecting 150-Foot Bridge Over 95th Street Sunday

Street closures are in effect around the 95th Street Red Line station as the CTA finishes installation of a 150-foot pedestrian bridge over the roadway.

The closures come as construction crews work to lift the sections of bridge into place. 95th Street, South State Street, and South Lafayette Avenue are all closed as part of the project, with detours available on Halsted Street, 87th Street, and Cottage Grove Avenue, according to the agency.

While the streets are closed, construction crews will use two large cranes throughout the day to lift the pedestrian bridge into the air and to connect it to the North and South terminals of the newly constructed station.

Three different sections will be lifted into place by construction crews, with each one weighing in at more than 73,000 pounds.

Once completed, the steel bridge will be encased with glass.

CTA officials say the road could be closed until Monday morning because of the construction.
