Gunfire Erupts in Southern Suburb Wounding at Least 3: Source

At least three people shot by what was believed to be multiple gunmen in suburban Riverdale late Thursday night, police sources told NBC 5.

Gunfire erupted in the southern Chicago suburb around 9:30 p.m. near Wallace Avenue and 138th Street, authorities confirmed. Multiple police agencies responded to the scene, including Illinois State Police. 

A police source said at least three people, believed to be in their late-teens or early-twenties, were shot from behind. Their conditions were not immediately released by police, but the source said at least one was in critical conditionh. 

More than 30 shell casings were found at the scene. 

The shooting remained under investigation by Riverdale Police Friday.
