Residents Shaken After Series of Robberies in Edgebrook

The area is home to numerous police officers and firefighters

Chicago police have issued a community alert after a series of burglaries took place in a neighborhood known for its large population of police officers and firefighters.

According to the alert, three robberies were reported within an eight-hour span in the city’s Edgebrook neighborhood on July 1, and police are searching for at least one suspect in the crime spree.

“I’m stunned, because usually that doesn’t happen here,” Edgebrook resident Ingrid Tellfors said. “It’s such a safe neighborhood.”

The robberies occurred between noon and 7 p.m. on July 1, according to police. In at least one instance, an offender, described as an African-American man between the ages of 25 and 35, standing 6-feet tall, and weighing around 200 pounds, was seen fleeing a scene in a blue four-door sedan.

The burglaries occurred:

-6700 block of North Central between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.

-7100 block of North Caldwell at 2:30 p.m.

-6200 block of West Devon at 5 p.m.

Police say that in every burglary, the robber gained entry into the victim’s residence and stole several items from inside.

Residents are hoping that police will step up patrols in the area.

“I’m hoping that the people get caught as soon as possible,” Tellfors said. “I would never want that to happen to my home, so I’ll take the necessary precautions to keep myself safe.”

Police are advising residents to call 911 immediately if they observe any suspicious activity, and to provide a detailed description of vehicles and potential offenders.
