3 Injured in CTA Bus Shooting, Officials Say

Police said a suspect exited the northbound CTA bus and began firing shots into the bus around 6:17 p.m.

Authorities responded to reports of multiple people shot in a CTA bus in the Chatham neighborhood Monday evening, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Police said a suspect exited the northbound CTA bus and began firing shots into the bus around 6:17 p.m. in the 7600 block of S. State St.

An 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg and transported in stable condition to the University of Chicago medical center, along with an 18-year-old man who was shot multiple times and transported in critical condition, firefighters confirmed.

In addition, a 59-year-old man received a graze wound on the left side of his body, police said, and self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital.

When paramedics showed up at the scene, one of the victims was in a CTA bus, while another was outside of it, officials said.

It remained unclear which two individuals officials referred to.

Authorities say a person of interest is currently being questioned.

No other information was immediately available.
