Cutler to Start Sunday for Bears vs. Browns

Quarterback has missed the Bears' last four games with ankle and groin injuries

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman has made it a point to say at every opportunity that the starting quarterback job was Jay Cutler's as soon as he was healthy enough to do it.

After practice on Thursday, Trestman announced that Cutler will indeed be the starter for the Bears.

Josh McCown, who has 13 touchdowns and only one interception in seven games for the Bears this season, will take back the headset and clipboard as the back-up quarterback on Sunday as Cutler tries to help the Bears their 41 year losing streak in the city of Cleveland.

When asked about whether or not he was worried that Cutler would be rusty after a long layoff, Trestman kept his answer simple:

In recent days, there has been a lot of clamoring by Bears fans, as well as some notable media figures like Brian Urlacher, that have said that McCown should remain the starter because of his stewardship of the offense in Cutler's absence, but their reasoning isn't a train of thought that Trestman shares. He has made it abundantly clear from the beginning of his tenure that Jay is his guy, and he is once again hammering that point home by not even pretending to have any sort of quarterback competition upon Cutler's return to the lineup.

The real question at this point is no longer whether or not Cutler should be starting, but whether or not he is fully healed from the ankle and groin injuries that sidelined him for the past several weeks. He tried to come back too early against the Detroit Lions after his groin injury, and he ended up being affected both by that and an ankle injury in that contest.

The team seemed to be a lot more patient this time with his recovery, and at a time when many players are really starting to feel the effects of a hard season, Cutler coming in fresh as a daisy could be a good thing for the Bears' offense.
