Rene Rivera Teams Up With Cubs' Wives to Raise Money for Puerto Rico

Chicago Cubs catcher Rene Rivera is taking steps to help his homeland of Puerto Rico after the island nation was hammered by Hurricane Maria this week.

Rivera’s wife Mariel, along with Javier Baez's fiance Irmarie and Victor Caratini's fiance Janise, have started a GoFundMe page to send donations to hurricane victims, and Rivera said that he would the first $6000 dontaed to the fund: 

Rivera's family lives in Puerto Rico, and the catcher has not been able to reach them since Wednesday morning. 

Other Cubs players have stepped up to the plate, as their wives have made donations to the campaign. John Lackey’s wife Kristina donated $500 to the fund, and Jon Lester’s wife Farrah kicked in $250.

Jon Jay’s wife Nicole also pitched in with a donation, as the Cubs’ wives helped support one of their teammates.

So far, the fundraiser has raised over $3000, and has a goal of $6000, according to the GoFundMe page
