Outdoor retail giant REI is opening up a new location on the North Branch of the Chicago River that will be dedicated to showcasing what the Great Outdoors has to offer to area residents.
The new 40,000 square foot location will be located on Goose Island, and will feature a staggering array of outdoor activities for shoppers to try out.
According to the city of Chicago, the new store will offer kayak and paddleboat rentals along the river, and will be the new location of an REI Outdoor School, which will feature sporting experiences.
“With more than 161,000 active REI members in Chicago, the second location on the Chicago Riverfront is part of the co-op’s mission to make the outdoors more accessible for all,” the city said in a statement.
There is not a timetable for when the new store will open.
