Red Flag Warning to Take Effect Across All of Chicago Area

“Critical fire weather conditions” will likely be seen, officials said

All of the Chicago area will be under a Red Flag Warning Tuesday as dangerous fire conditions raise concerns.

The warning takes effect at noon in DuPage, Cook, Will, Kankakee, Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle and Kendall counties in Illinois and Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in northwest Indiana. It remains in effect until 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, “the combination of strong winds, very low relative humidity, exceptionally dry fuels and warm temperatures will promote extremely dangerous behavior of any fires.”

With winds gusting up to 30 mph and relative humidity as low as 15 to 25 percent, “critical fire weather conditions” will likely be seen, officials said.

NWS said outdoor burning is “strongly discouraged.”
