A recount is being sought in a central Illinois county sheriff's election with a one-vote margin.
The Macon County clerk's office last week certified final results giving Democrat candidate Tony Brown 19,655 votes to Republican Jim Root's 19,654 votes.
Root tells The (Decatur) Herald & Review he wants the recount process to be done professionally and identify the election's true outcome.
Brown and Root are both lieutenants in the sheriff's department and were seeking to replace Howard Buffett, the son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett who became interim sheriff last year when the previous sheriff retired.
Brown says he expected the recount and would've done the same given close outcome.
The county clerk says Brown will be sworn in by Dec. 1, unless a judge orders otherwise.
