Rashied Davis Cut By Bears

Rashied Davis was released from the Bears on Wednesday. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Davis suffered an injury and did not practice on Tuesday.

Davis spent six seasons in Chicago before being signed by Detroit before the 2011 season. During his time in Chicago, he earned a reputation as a hard-hitting run blocker and special teams juggernaut. He hit his peak as a receiver in 2008 with 35 catches. But with the Bears' upgraded receiving corps in 2012, Davis was a long-shot to make the team.

The task for Davis became even more difficult after Dane Sanzenbacher's pre-season. The undrafted free agent out of Ohio State impressed last season as a receiver but needed to show more comfort on special teams during the 2012 pre-season. In the Bears' three pre-season games, he did just that, jeopardizing Davis' chance to make the team.

Despite the Bears' fourth pre-season game on Thursday night, the team will have to make more hard cuts in the next few days. The roster has to be at 53 by Friday.
