Warrenville's Navistar Inc., the holding company that owns the manufacturer of International brand commercial trucks has announced it'll be teaming up with Skokie's Rand McNally, the makers of those fine atlases, globes, and maps, to install the latter's IntelliRoute TND GPS units as an in-dash option in trucks starting 2012.
Even though it's two local companies teaming up, we can beat our chests a little as Navistar's VP of Product and Vocational Marketing Steve Gilligan told Automotive Business Review that after extensive market research "the Rand McNally unit met [our] requirements better than any of the other units we have reviewed."
It's also a reminder of how Chicago companies have been able to straddle the line between and evolve from the old way of doing things to the new way of doing things. Heck, did you even know Rand McNally makes GPSes?
