Rainwater Leaks Through Terminal Walls Inside O'Hare Airport

"Nothing to see here. ... Just a waterfall in the middle of the O’Hare airport international terminal."

Torrential rain flooded Chicago's northern suburbs on Monday, causing hundreds of cancelations and delays at O'Hare International Airport and shutting down traffic on I-190 around the airport.

Terminal walls were no match for the high floodwaters that caused the airport standstill.

Videos posted to Instagram showed water leaking through terminal walls, flooding carpeting and waiting areas.

One video shows a cart slowly wading through the waters.

"Nothing to see here. ... Just a waterfall in the middle of the O’Hare airport international terminal," Instagram user klausluchs posted on Instagram.

At least 284 flights were canceled and nearly 900 were delayed at O'Hare as of 4:30 p.m.

"The Chicago Department of Aviation is working with its airline partners to address flooding at the airport caused by the heavy rain storm that passed through the area," Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride said in a statement. "With additional rain expected this evening, and delays already reported at both O'Hare and Midway, travelers are urged to check with carriers for their current flight status."
