Rain, Storms Take Aim at Chicago Area Ahead of Weekend

After days of sunny skies and unseasonably warm weather, the Chicago area is set to see showers and storms heading into the weekend.

Thursday's partly sunny skies could turn to rain and storms heading into the afternoon and evening hours.

While not widespread, any isolated storm that develops could bring hail and higih winds to some areas. The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

Much of the metro area is under the marginal risk for severe storms Thursday.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Ford County Thursday afternoon, and areas such as LaSalle saw hail up to a quarter of an inch.

Breezy and mild conditions will keep highs in the upper 60s to 70 degrees for most of the day.

Cloudy skies remain Friday morning before giving way to more sunshine in the afternoon and cooler temperatures. Highs in the mid to upper 50s inland, but only reaching upper 40s along the lakefront.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will be mostly sunny and mild. Highs in the upper 60s inland, but cooler lakefront.

Sunday will also be mostly to partly sunny, but windy and warmer. Highs in low 70s before temperatures drop again and the chance of showers returns for the beginning of the work week.
