The pleasant streak of calm, cool summer weather comes to a temporary end Wednesday for some of the Chicago area.

Far north suburbs, especially those along the state line, should see a few isolated thunderstorms followed by intervals of clouds and sun throughout the day, according to NBCChicago's Andy Avalos.

For the rest of the area, a 20 to 30 percent chance of showers and isolated storms looms, mostly after 1 p.m.

Otherwise typical, mid-August highs of 80 to 83 are expected with low humidity.

Wednesday night brings clear skies and the continuation of mild temperatures. Thursday warms up to highs of 81-85, and showers stay away until Saturday.

The threat of thunderstorms continues most of the weekend with highs in the low 80s.
