The canopy of clouds breaking up Chicago's long weekend of bright blue skies gradually will turn into a cluster of showers and thunderstorms.
A bulk of the rain isn't expected to arrive until later Tuesday evening, though showers could start developing after 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
NBCChicago's Andy Avalos predicts the east-moving storm system will weaken as it approaches, producing scattered showers again after 1 a.m. and temperatures in the 60s overnight.
Some clouds and a few early showers are possible Wednesday morning before the sun returns with warm, slightly more humid conditions and highs in the low 80s, Avalos says.
Expect upper 80s and low 90s later this week as hotter temperatures and higher humidity return Thursday and Friday before a taste of fall arrives Sunday and especially Monday.
Over the weekend, sun and clouds give way to showers at times, as temperatures trend cooler in the low to mid-80s.
