Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he's met with new Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and thinks all Chicagoans are wishing him well.
Epstein joined the Cubs last month and said he'll work hard to win a World Series and break the franchise's 103-year championship drought. The team's long-suffering fans include Emanuel, who once represented a U.S. House district that included Wrigley Field.
"I talked about, welcoming him again to the city. ... I think I expressed this correctly [that], while we are a city with a deep set of loyalties to which baseball team you are for, regardless of your loyalty, I think the whole city is wishing him well in this new venture with the Chicago Cubs," said Emanuel, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Emanuel told reporters Friday that the two men didn't talk this week about more night games, ballpark renovations or other points of contention between the city and team. Emanuel did receive a new Cubs jacket.
The mayor wouldn't suggest any candidates for the open job of Cubs manager.
