R. Kelly Performing in Chicago in May

It marks the embattled singer's first concert in the city since harsh allegations arose in 2017

Controversial but legendary R&B singer R. Kelly is scheduled to perform on May 5 at the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion.

The performance, part of “Love Jam 2018,” will see Kelly take the stage alongside other artists such as Xscap3, K. Michelle and Lyfe Jennings. Tickets are available here.

It will be Kelly’s first performance in Chicago since allegations arose last summer that Kelly has kept women at his homes in Chicago and suburban Atlanta and that he allegedly controls “every aspect of their lives,” according to a BuzzFeed News report.

Those allegations were not the first such levied against the singer, who was indicted on charges of manufacturing child pornography in 2002 and acquitted in 2008. He also had prior allegations of sex with underage girls and in 1994 married a 15-year-old girl by falsifying a Cook County marriage certificate.

Kelly is known for his hits "Ignition (Remix)," "Bump N' Grind," "Trapped in the Closet" and more, but his music has fallen somewhat from the public eye. His most recent album, 2016's "12 Nights of Christmas," peaked at number 177 on the Billboard 200.
