R. Kelly Denied Bail Again, NY Trial Scheduled For May 2020

A motion filed Monday cites previously undisclosed health issues including numbness in Kelly's hand, anxiety and an untreated hernia that Kelly allegedly suffers from, claiming that Kelly is not "presently receiving adequate medical care."

R. Kelly on Wednesday was denied bail during a status hearing in New York after the singer's attorneys filed a motion stating Kelly is suffering from multiple medical issues while in jail.

The motion filed Monday in the Eastern District of New York asked to reconsider bail and noted that Kelly should be immediately released as he has no previous convictions and presents no flight risk or danger to the community.

The motion also cites previously undisclosed health issues including numbness in Kelly's hand, anxiety and an untreated hernia that Kelly allegedly suffers from, claiming that Kelly is not "presently receiving adequate medical care."

The judge on Wednesday set Kelly's next court hearing, which the singer is not expected to attend, for Dec. 9 in New York. The judge also set Kelly's New York trial date for May 18, 2020. The trial is expected to last three weeks.

New York prosecutors charged Kelly in July, alleging the singer abused women and girls for two decades, dating from 1998 to 2018.

The federal charges include one count of racketeering and four counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits sex trafficking across state lines. There are five victims in the New York indictment. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

Judge Steven L Tiscione denied Kelly's original request for bail in August.

Kelly was arrested in Chicago on July 12 on a 13-count federal indictment and has since remained in custody at the Metropolitan Correction Center. Kelly is also facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County, Illinois.

Chicago attorney Steve Greenberg, who represents Kelly, submitted the motion written to New York Judge Ann M Donnelly citing that Kelly possesses "almost no financial resources" and is not a serious risk of flight, citing his passport, which was issued eight years ago and contains no passport stamps. Kelly has known history of being afraid to fly.
