Former Busser at Purple Pig Alleges Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment allegations have been raised against a popular restaurant on the Magnificent Mile.

Rodrigo Soto held a news conference Wednesday, surrounded by religious leaders, activists and politicians. He says he was sexually harassed by three coworkers at the famed downtown restaurant The Purple Pig. Soto says he worked as a busser at the restaurant from June of 2017 until May of this year.

He claims he repeatedly told management that his coworkers were touching him and saying inappropriate things that made him uncomfortable, but nothing was done to make it stop. Soto says the continued harassment affected him so much he had to leave his job.

He told NBC 5 he filed a formal complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission" Wednesday as well.

The EEOC says it cannot confirm the complaint was filed. It is only allowed to share information about complaints if the commission files a lawsuit.

The Purple Pig issued a statement saying it has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination of any kind.

"As a business built upon the foundation of immigration to the United States by our own ancestors, we are proud to foster a welcoming, supportive environment for all of our team members," the statement reads. "We look forward to continuing to set a positive example for the hospitality community in Chicago and beyond."

The business also said its employee handbook says workers are obligated to report such concerns to management.
