Clean-Up Efforts Continue After Prospect Heights Fire

Residents of a Prospect Heights condo complex ravaged by a massive fire are returning to their homes to salvage the few items the blaze left intact.

While in the complex, residents grabbed TV’s, clothes, and most importantly, cherished memories.

Finding those kinds of belongings has been a difficult task for the 90 or so families impacted by the fire. Since the building has no power, residents have had to use flashlights to help guide their way, and they’ve had to take frequent breaks due to the odor still left in the building.

“It’s kind of difficult to look for stuff. It’s like walking into a cave. You don’t see anything,” resident Raul Lugo said.

Community groups are still looking to help those affected by the fire, but they’ll need the public’s help to coordinate the effort.

“The significant outpouring of donations has resulted in the need for volunteers to assist with sorting and organizing donations,” the city said in a statement. “If you or your organization would like to assist in this effort, please contact the City of Prospect Heights at 847-398-6070, extension 206, and leave your name and phone number.”
