Though no Chicagoan came remotely close to touching the top of this year's Forbes' 400, several notable locals grabbed spots on the annual list of the richest Americans.
We noticed one Chicago family name pop up more than once: Pritzker.
Jay Robert (J.B.) Pritzker ranked 166 with a net worth of $3 billion, followed by Thomas Pritzker at 201 ($2.7 billion), Penny Pritzker at 252 ($2.2 billion), Jean (Gigi) Pritzker at 260 ($2.1 billion), Jennifer Pritzker at 327 ($1.7 billion) and Nicholas Pritzker, II at 382 ($1.35 billion).
Each Pritzker's wealth was sourced in hotels and investments, according to the publication, but some dabble in other areas.
Penny Pritzker was sworn in this June as the nation's new commerce secretary, promising transparency and an open dialogue with employees.
"I want to play an active and vital and visible role, just like each of you do, in helping businesses create jobs," she said after being administered the Oath of Office.
Other Chicagoans on the list include Citadel LLC founder Ken Griffin, former Tribune owner Sam Zell and Groupon chairman Eric Lefkofsky.
As for the top of the tops, Bill Gates' $72 billion net worth kept him at the top of the list with Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison and Charles and David Koch.
