Powell in Chicago for Holocaust Museum Opening

Former Secretary of State to speak at Thursday event

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is scheduled to speak in the Chicago area Thursday for an event leading up to this month's opening of the Illinois Holocaust Museum.

Museum officials say Powell will give the keynote address at the gala in suburban Skokie. Gov. Pat Quinn is also scheduled to appear, along with local leaders and Holocaust survivors.

The 65,000 square-foot museum will include artifacts such as the original volume of the Nuremberg trial transcripts and almost 2,000 testimonies of Midwest Holocaust survivors.

The exhibits are designed to preserve personal belongings and educate people.

Officials say the museum will help Holocaust survivors heal.

Former President Bill Clinton is expected to give a keynote address at the museum's April 19 opening.
