A postal worker found a 3-year-old boy alone on a street Monday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, police said.
The postal worker was on her route just after 2 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Clyde when someone who thought the boy needed help approached her.
"He had no clothes on," said postal carrier Shannon Vivians. "No shoes. Anything. Just drawers."
She, along with several residents, wrapped the child in a blanket and waited for police. Neighbors told NBC 5 they can't recall a three-year-old that lives in the area, but prayed that he was okay.
The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, and didn't appear to have any major injuries.
"I thank God the post carrier found the child, and called police," neighbor Carolyn Saunders said.
Police officers searched the neighborhood for the boys parents throughout Monday evening. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was called in to handle the case.
