Theater Employee Injured During “Dark Knight” Theft

The robbery happened at about 3 a.m. on July 20, just hours after the movie's midnight debut at the Portage 16 IMAX

Police are looking for two men they say injured a movie theater employee while making off with a promotional poster for the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

The robbery happened at about 3 a.m. on July 20, just hours after the movie's midnight debut at the Portage 16 IMAX, at 6550 U.S. 6.

Theater employees told police the two men asked if they could have the poster and were turned down. Minutes later, the employees said they saw one of the men walking away with the poster. A female employee chased after them, but an accomplice shoved her into a wall, police said.

The theater employee wound up with a broken right wrist, police said. The men got away with the poster.

Police offered little in the way of a description of the two men. Surveillance images from the theater showed they were both white men. One was wearing a tie-dyed shirt and the other was in a Polo-type shirt.

Anyone with information on robbery or the identities of the two men are urged to contact Portage police at 219-762-3122.

"Obviously the theft is important, but the injury to the employee supercedes that," Lt. Dennis Meyers said in an email.
