Pop-Up Art Loop Offers Monthly Walks

First Thursdays gallery walks begin May 3rd

Consider it a way to get your exercise and your culture fix taken care of at once.

Chicago Loop Alliance’s (CLA) public art initiative Pop-Up Art Loop kicks -- or rather, walks off this week with a new addition to its First Thursdays initiatives.

Gallery walks begin on May 3 from 5-8 pm.

Chicago’s iconic Inland Steel Building (30 W. Monroe St) will be added to the mix this year, a new installation that brings the outside inside by transforming the building’s lobby into an indoor “garden party” lounge, complete with grass, sculptures, benches and even bike racks.

But that’s not the only reason to join the monthly event. The concept of Pop-Up Art Loop takes empty storefronts in the Loop and transforms them into temporary art galleries open to the public, so you can peruse many participating galleries and mingle with other art enthusiasts.

The free, self-guided tours continue through October 4. Check out the complete list of dates and times here.

And make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes.
