Police: Woman Stole $36K from Charitable Organization

Karrol L. Williams is charged with stealing from Community Youth Network, based in Grayslake

A Lake Villa woman was charged Friday with stealing more than $36,000 from the not-for-profit organization she worked for.

Karrol L. Williams, 45, was a financial coordinator for Community Youth Network based in north suburban Grayslake, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.

A police investigation revealed that from 2012 until late 2014, Williams charged $36,470 on CYN credit cards for personal expenses that were not related to the organization.

Police said Williams then moved funds from other CYN accounts to the credit card accounts in an effort to conceal her theft.

Williams, of the 3700 block of North Columbus in Lake Villa, was charged with two counts of identity theft and one count each of unlawful use of a credit card and theft, police said.

Williams was remanded to the Lake County Jail on a $10,000 bond, police said. She is scheduled to next appear in court Feb. 11.
