Police Warn of Robbers Pepper Spraying Store Clerks

Authorities say three similar robberies occurred in the past week on the Southwest Side of the city

Police are warning Southwest Side businesses after robbers pepper sprayed Boost Mobile store clerks during three recent Southwest Side robberies.

Two robbers walk into the Boost Mobile cellphone stores, approach the counter and pepper spray the clerk’s face, then steal property and run, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The robberies happened:

  • at 12:50 p.m. on March 31 in the 5100 block of South Kedzie;
  • at 8:50 p.m. on March 31 in the 6400 block of South Pulaski;
  • and at 2:22 p.m. on April 2 in the 6600 block of South Cicero.

The suspects are described as two black men between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot-8 to 6-foot and 130 to 300 pounds, police said. One one of the suspects wore a long black wig that was parted down the middle.
