Police Shoot Man in Northwest Suburban Crystal Lake

Police shot a man early Monday morning in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

Police said officers were initially called to a home a little after 11 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of West Terra Cotta Avenue for a domestic battery incident. Authorities said a man in his late 20s had battered an adult female family member and had threatened her with a knife before fleeing the scene.

The woman was treated at the home for injuries to her face.

A few hours later, around 1:30 a.m. Monday, officers were called to a home in the 800 block of Boxwood Drive for a report of an “unwanted” person at the home.

Police said the man involved in the domestic incident had entered the home against the wishes of the residents, including the woman who was injured in the earlier incident.

An officer at the scene heard “calls of distress within the home” and entered the residence, according to a release from Crystal Lake Police.

Officials said the officer was confronted by the man, who was armed with a knife and charged at the officer. The officer fired his gun, striking the man at least once.

The man was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock where he was being treated for a gunshot wound.

The officer was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington as a precaution and was treated and released.

Police said the officer has been placed on administrative leave as Illinois State Police investigate the shooting.
