Police Seek Help in Solving Pair of I-57 Shootings

A 55-year-old woman was shot to death on the expressway on Monday evening

Illinois State Police are asking for the public's help in solving a pair of shootings on Interstate 57, including one that claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman.

That shooting took place just after 10 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate near Cicero Avenue, police said. The woman was the lone occupant in her vehicle at the time of the crash, and she was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Earlier Monday, three people were riding in a car in the northbound lanes near 127th Street when they were shot. A 38-year-old man remains in critical condition, but his condition has stablized, police say.

The other victims, a 15-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, were also shot, but have been released from hospitals.

Another victim, an 8-year-old boy, was in the car at the time of the shooting, and although he wasn't shot, he was still taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

A preliminary investigation has ruled that the shootings are not connected, but that they are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information on either of the shootings is asked to call the Illinois State Police at 847-294-4400, and that callers may remain anonymous if they choose to do so.
