Police Issue Alert After Armed Robberies on South Side

Chicago police are searching for a man they say has committed a pair of armed robberies on the city’s South Side this month.

According to police, the man approached victims on sidewalks or in parking lots, under the ruse of asking for change or using a phone. After the victims stopped to look for the item, the man then displayed a knife and demanded property, police said.

The incidents occurred in the 6800 block of South East End on Aug. 17 at approximately 9 p.m. in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, and in the 6700 block of South Jeffery Boulevard in the Jackson Park Highlands neighborhood on Aug. 22 just before 1:30 a.m., according to police.

The assailant is described as an African-American man between the ages of 21 and 25, standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 160 pounds. In one of the incidents, the man was sporting a Mohawk hairstyle, and in the other he was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask.

Police are asking anyone with information to dial 911, or to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
