3 of 4 Suspects in Custody After Report of Burglary, Hit-and-Run Crash in Elmhurst: Police

Police are still searching for suspects following a report of a burglary and hit-and-run crash in Elmhurst Monday morning, police said.

Elmhurst Police Commander Steve Wright said as many as three suspects were in custody Monday morning but authorities were still searching for a fourth person in connection with the incident.

Authorities said the crash happened around 5 a.m. as officers responded to a report of a burglary at a garage in the suburban town.

As they tried to stop a vehicle near West Avenue and Gladys, it fled and struck a police car. Several suspects then fled on foot, authorities said.

"At this time Elmhurst police officers along with assistance from surrounding police agencies and police K-9 dogs are searching the area for the suspects," police said.

Authorities said they were searching for four suspects but little information was given on their descriptions. By 9 a.m., three of the four suspects were in custody, authorities said.

Police could be seen blocking West Avenue from North Avenue to Lake Street and Armitage east of West Avenue.

"There is a significant police presence in the area. Anyone with information is asked to immediately contact 9-1-1," police said.
