Chicago Police Search for Man Who Tried to Lure Girl to Minivan

Police are searching for a man who tried to lure a 12-year-old girl to a minivan last week in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

About 8:55 a.m. July 11, the girl was walking northbound in the 500 block of North Monticello when she noticed a silver minivan following her, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The man driving the can then called, “Come here little girl,” police said. The girl ignored him, prompting the man to drive his vehicle eastbound on Garfield Square Drive and block the girl’s path.

He told her to “get in the car,” but she was able to run to the safety of a friend’s house, police said.

The driver is described as a white man, between 25 and 35 years old, with a bald head, wearing a dark blue shirt, police said. The vehicle was a “newer minivan.”

Anyone with information on the attempted child luring is asked to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200.
