Police Reveal Details in Fatal Edens Expressway Crash Sunday

Outbound lanes were temporarily closed but have reopened as of 8 a.m. Sunday

A person was killed and three others were injured after a three-vehicle accident on the Edens Expressway early Sunday morning, according to Illinois State Police.

Authorities say that three vehicles, a BMW sedan, a Chevrolet sedan, and a Toyota taxi, were traveling northbound near Gross Point Road at approximately 1:37 a.m. when they became involved in a collision.

The driver of the BMW lost control of his car, crashing into the other two vehicles, police said.

The force of the collision caused the Toyota to flip over on the expressway, killing the driver, according to authorities.

The driver and two passengers in the BMW were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injures, while the driver of the Chevrolet and her passenger were uninjured.

The identity of the Toyota's driver has not yet been released by authorities, and no further details were made available about possible charges or citations in the crash. Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
