Two Law Enforcement Vehicles Stolen

Black Acura RSX's stolen from city's Northwest side.

Two cars belonging to law enforcement were stolen overnight on the city's Northwest side.

Both vehicles were stolen between midnight and 9 a.m. Wednesday from a residential area near Diversey and Harlem, though at two different locations.  Windows were smashed in both casees.

One of the vehicles belongs to the U.S. Marshals Service and is of greater concern because it's equipped with emergency lights and a siren, which could allow a criminal to impersonate an officer.  The vehicle contained a radio and other police equipment, authorities said.  It's a black 2005 Acura RSX with license plate X965268.

The other vehicle belongs to the Chicago Police Department and contained about 1,000 rounds of .38 caliber ammo.  It's also a 2005 Acura RSX with license plate 6252029.

Lt. Kevin Friedich said he doesn't believe the cars were targeted specifically because they belonged to officers, but said he didn't know if there were other cars also stolen in the area overnight.

Anyone who is pulled over by a car matching the descriptions can call 911 and request a marked police car to meet them.  Those with  information on the thefts, including other law enforcement agencies with similar thefts, are asked to call detectives at 312-746-8360.
