Lisle police officers shot and killed a man who attempted to break into a home early Saturday morning.
At 5:13 a.m., officers responded to a call of a 35-year-old man trying to break into a home in the 4400 block of Yender Avenue in Lisle, according to a statement from the Lisle Police Department.
The 59-year-old woman, who lives in the home alone, was awaken by loud footsteps on her front porch. The man “began to violently kick (the) front door attempting to break it down.” He then moved to the back of the house and kicked the back door, police said.
The woman barricaded herself in the bathroom while waiting for officers to arrive, police said.
Two police officers arrived on scene at 5:16 a.m. and found the man armed with a weapon. One officer used a Taser-like weapon on the man, which had no effect, and the other officer shot the man, police said.
The man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he later died, police said.
The intruder was later identified as 35-year-old Anthony Aguilar of Lisle. Preliminary results from the DuPage coroner's office indicate Aguilar died from a single gunshot wound to the lower chest.

The woman was not injured, and three officers were treated and released from Edward Hospital in Naperville.
The Lisle Police Department contacted the Illinois State Police investigations unit to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. This is an ongoing investigation in conjunction with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Officer and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, police said.
