Chicago police have issued an alert for businesses in the city’s Near North neighborhood after a pair of smash-and-grab burglaries at the same business.
According to police, a jewelry store inside of Water Tower Place in the 800 block of North Michigan Avenue has been hit by thieves twice within a month’s time. In both robberies, multiple suspects entered the retail shop, smashed a glass display case with a mallet, and took watches, according to a community alert issued by police.
The thefts occurred on Oct. 13 at 11 a.m., and then on Nov. 3 at approximately 11:40 a.m., police said.
The suspects are described as African-American males between the ages of 17-25, standing between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet tall. Both suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts with the Nike logo emblazoned on them.
According to police, the suspects fled the store on foot, and in the October theft they fled the scene in a gold Jeep Cherokee.
Police are advising businesses in the area to step up their security protocols, and are asking anyone with information on the thefts to call 911 or the Area Central Bureau of Detectives at 312-747-8384.
