Suspect Arrested After Police Officer Shot in Knee on Chicago's South Side

A suspect was arrested late Monday night after a Chicago police officer was shot in the knee on the city's South Side, prompting a several hours long manhunt, police confirmed.

Chicago Police Department officials said the incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Vincennes. According to officials, officers saw a known suspect who was wanted for aggravated assault, and he produced a gun, firing several times at officers.

One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the knee and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers didn't return fire, police stated.

CTA buses in the were temporarily rerouted due to the police activity.

Additional information about the suspect who was arrested wasn't available Monday night.
