Defrocked Priest Arrested on Sexual Abuse Charges

Daniel McCormack accused of molesting 10-year-old in 2005

Former Catholic priest Daniel McCormack was taken into police custody Wednesday in connection with sexual abuse allegations.

Police confirm that an arrest warrant was obtained for McCormack on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Cook County State's Attorney spokesperson Sally Daley told NBC 5 that the case involves a new victim who was 10 years old in 2005.

McCormack, who served at St. Agatha’s parish, was currently staying at a state mental health facility.

McCormack pleaded guilty in 2007 to abusing five children. He was sentenced to five years in prison and removed from the priesthood.

In March, the Archdiocese of Chicago agreed to settle for $1.68 to $2.1 million a lawsuit alleging former priest Daniel McCormack sexually abused a Catholic school student.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese said they have no information on McCormack's Wednesday arrest.

McCormack is due in bond court Thursday.
