Police: Army Veteran Killed in Evanston Rollover Crash

The driver of the car struck multiple parked cars on both sides of the street and flipped over

A man was killed and a woman seriously injured in a rollover crash early Sunday in north suburban Evanston, police said.

At about 2:20 a.m., the 42-year-old woman was driving a 1998 Nissan northbound in the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue with the 45-year-old man in the front passenger seat when their vehicle struck multiple parked cars on both sides of the street and flipped over, according to Evanston police.

Fire crews had to extricate the man, who was taken to Evanston Hospital where he later died, police said. He was identified as Lamart Bailey, a U.S. Army veteran, police said.

The driver was taken to the same hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.

Both people from the vehicle are Evanston residents, police said.

Traffic in the area was blocked until about 9 a.m. as crews cleared the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
